DeSoto Parish History Volume II is now complete.

A limited number of books will be published for $50 & can be ordered from DeSoto Parish Tourist Bureau, P. O. Box 1327, Mansfield, Louisiana, 71052 with an additional $5 shipping and handling charge. Click Here for an order form. At the end of July books will be available for purchase for $50 each at the DeSoto Parish Tourist Bureau, 101 N. Washington Ave., Mansfield, Louisiana,71052.

Volume II features churches, communities, towns, villages, doctors, mayors, postmasters, families, and much other information concerning the history of DeSoto Parish. While DeSoto Parish History Volume I focused mostly on families this book deals primarily with local history. The section on communities such as Pelican and Benson and villages such as South Mansfield is of special interest In addition and a major feature of volume II is an eighty page section dedicated to veterans with the hometown of each listed, role in the military service, and dates of service. The appearance of the cover is the same as Volume I, hardback, burgundy with the original log courthouse as the cover illustration. DeSoto Parish History Volume II will serve as an attractive addition to the libraries of both private individuals, public libraries for local history collections, and to genealogical libraries.



FAMILIES DONATE HISTORIC COLLEGE TO STATE OF LOUISIANA
The heirs of State Senator Reimer Calhoun, who purchased the buildings and grounds of Mansfield Female College when it closed in 1930, are donating the old main building to the state in recognition of its historic significance, and with the intent that it be converted to a museum to complement existing historic sites and structures in DeSoto parish. Perry Volunteers in the Mexican War:

written by DeSoto researcher and contributor Hugh LeBaron.
In addition to being of special interest to those of with roots in south central Alabama, this book should be helpful to anyone researching the Mexican War, or wondering about the day to day life of an ancestor who served therein.

J & W Enterprises stocks several DeSoto parish reference books,
including a list of marriages between 1843-1905, and a listing of Keachie College students.

Evelyn Carroll has extensive genealogy collected for the following related families from DeSoto Parishes and Natchitoches Parish:  RAMBIN, LAFITTE,  AND DESOTO (many more).  Data base includes approximately 2000 individuals and 500 marriages.  It dates back to 1690 in France and Spain.  The individuals who are patriarch to this family founded the town of Rambin (near Mansfield) in Desoto Parish.  This town was formed from a homestead granted to Francois Augustine Rambin and his wife, Marie Demosende DeSoto.  Please email her if you need or have any information on this.
