Mr. James D. Raines

MANSFIELD, LA - Funeral Services for Mr. James D. Raines 'Red' will be held Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Grand Cane Baptist Church in Grand Cane, LA. Reverend David Permenter and Dr. Gary Orr will be officiating. Interment will follow in Union Springs Cemetery in Union Springs, LA. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 16 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, LA.

James Douglas Raines was born November 30, 1928 in Union Springs, La to Ennis Buren and Addie Largent Raines and passed away September 14, 2009 at DeSoto Retirement and Rehabilitation Center in Mansfield, LA.

Mr. Raines was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was known by many names, Daddy and Red but to most as Papa. He leaves behind a legacy of serving the Lord, loving his family, hard work and his love of the outdoors.

Mr. Raines was preceded in death by his parents; Ennis and Addie Raines, son; James Douglas Raines, Jr., and five sisters.

Left here to cherish his memory are his wife; Johnnie Ruth Young Raines, children; Sharon Shetley and husband, Bill of Mansfield, LA, Lisa LeGrand and husband Rory of Mansfield, LA, Suzette Crocker and husband Kenneth of Grand Cane, LA, Jackie Raines and wife, Pam of Shreveport, LA., Tim Cooper and wife, Tina of Stonewall, LA.; sisters; Willow Dean Steinmiller of Shreveport, Patsy Shadoin and husband, Bernard of Benson, LA, Alta Montgomery and husband, Leo of Bedford, TX, grandchildren; Dusty Dumas and husband, Kenneth, Carson Holtzclaw and husband, Jason, Shane Crocker and wife, Tannetje', Stacie Durham and husband, Brandon, Brian Swann, Brandi Akerstrom and husband, Magnus, great-grandchildren; Jaxon and Kenli Dumas, Beaux Holtzclaw, Jade Griffith, Leeland Durham, Luke and Abram Akerstrom and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Raines grandsons and great grandson will honor him as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Grand Cane Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Raines name to Grand Cane Baptist Church Building Fund or International Christians Children's Home of Brazil in care of Grand Cane Baptist Church.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to DeSoto Retirement and Rehab Center, Southern Care Hospice and Dr. Ben Leggio "He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers."
