Houston Simpson Byrd was the son of John Simpson Byrd and Sarah Melissa Lee. [John Simpson Byrd not buried here] was the son of James Mitchel Byrd and his wife Janie Missouri Baton (or Batton). James Mitchel Byrd was the son of Green Byrd and Mary Archer (widow Jones). Green Byrd is buried at Old Salem. I don’t think the dates on Green’s tombstone are correct, but from other dates I have I can’t decide exactly which is right. According to a niece, Malinda Edwards, his last wife, the mother of most of his children was still living in 2006. If you need proof of any of this, I’ll be glad to provide it.
James Mitchell Byrd was a brother of my ancestor Narcissus Byrd who married William Washington Watson. They are buried at Old Salem.

I’m actually looking for any male descendants of James Mitchell Byrd to see if they would provide DNA if I paid for it to be tested for genealogical purposes. Someone who lived in that area told me there were still some Byrd males still in the area. [Shelby, San Augustine or Nacogdoches].
