ALFORD SANFORD - Fayette AL - Funeral services for Alford Lindsey Sanford, 32, who died Monday in Fayette will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. The Reverend Rickey Cash will officiate with burial in the church cemetery, Norwood Chapel Funeral Home directing. Sanford is survived by his wife, Mrs. Linda Cunningham Sanford, Fayette; a daughter, Dana Sanford, Fayette; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey W. Sanford, Route 1 Fayette; six brothers, James Sanford, Livingston, Eugene Sanford, Billy Sanford, Leroy Sanford, Curtis Sanford and Larry Sanford, all of Fayette; a sister, Mrs. Aileen Locke, Fayette; and a number of nieces and nephews. A native of Fayette County, he was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, was a Army veteran and was employed by Arvin Automotive for 14 years. He was a member of Woodmen of the World. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time and will be at the funeral home from 4-9 tonight. Norman Ray Sanford 81, of Oakman died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11 in Kilgore Green Funeral Home Chapel with a burial at Midway Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m. in Kilgore Green Funeral Home. Mark Howell and Joe Spivey will officiate. Kilgore Green Funeral home will direct.

Vida Lou Sanford

NEW ALBANY - Vida Lou Sanford, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. She was born Nov. 10, 1922, in Etta to Andrew J. and Maude Rayburn Williams. She was retired from Futorian Mfg. Company and she was a member of First Baptist Church of New Albany.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at United Funeral Service with Rev. Rickey Blythe officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park.
Survivors include two sons, James Sanford of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, and Rev. Jerry Sanford of Ecru; four grandchildren, Melissa Sanford, Zach Sanford, Delaney Sanford and Daniel Sanford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Z. Sanford, and her parents.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert D. Scarber, 79, of Huxley, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2007. He was born June 4, 1928 in Dreka, Texas to Daniel James Scarber and Bessie Ann Shue Scarber. Robert was a retired business owner, having previously owned Scarber’s store in Huxley. He served in the US Army and was a member of Sam Houston Masonic Lodge and the Huxley Volunteer Fire Department.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Wayne Bickley officiating. Interment will follow at Strong Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, August 31, 2007 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Sammy Furlow, Danny Scarborough, Johnny Mathews, Joe Morris, Billy Smith, Troy Shofner, Randy Smotherman and Shad Sparks.

He was preceded in death by his aunt, Kelli Ann Sexton.

He is survived by his parents, Bryan and Stacy Sexton of Bessemer; his brothers, Hunter and Parker Sexton; his grandparents, Mary McCool of Northport, Thomas Yarbrough of Tuscaloosa, and Woody and JoAnn Sexton of Tuscaloosa; his aunts and uncles, Juli Sexton Hart and Kip Hart, Erin Sexton Murphy, and JP Murphy; his great-grandparents, Rita Falgout Capps of Tuscaloosa, Arlie and Freda Long of Montross, Va., and Milton Yarbrough of Tuscaloosa; and his cousins, Kelli, Mason, Bradyn, and Sophi Hart of Tuscaloosa.

Mr. Bobby Sherrill, age 74 of Fayette, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Fayette Medical Center .

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 8th at 1:00 p.m. at the Fayette Church of God. The body will lie in state at the church from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Fayette Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Norwood Chapel.

Mr. Sherrill was born April 9, 1936 in Fayette to Elbert and Wilma Holliman Sherrill. He was a life-long resident of Fayette and was a member of the Fayette Church of God. He owned and operated the Sherrill Shell service station for many years and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 18 years of service as a mail carrier.

Survivors include his wife Lois Lowery Sherrill of Fayette; two sons, Philip E. “Bud” (Angie) Sherrill of Northport and Darren E.(Laura) Sherrill of Fayette; one brother, Buddy (Faye) Sherrill of Fayette; two grandchildren, Philip Sherrill II and Dusty Sherrill; three great grandchildren, Dustin Sherrill, Levi Sherrill and Brianna Sherrill.

Pallbearers are Philip “Bud” Sherrill, Darren Sherrill, Philip Sherrill II, Dusty Sherrill, Dustin Sherrill, Levi Sherrill, Brianna Sherrill and Tyler Simpson.

Jackie Zane Smelley, 75, of Parrish, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010 , at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Sardis Cemetery . Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home.

He was surrounded by family and friends when he went to be with the Lord. He loved his church, Gorgas Baptist, where he was a deacon. He was a graduate of Martin High School .

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry D. and Mattie Smelley; and sisters, Jerelene Whitlock and Overgene Dunnom.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Stover Smelley of Parrish; son, Lynn Smelley (Jamie) of Sumiton; grandson, Dayton Smelley; sisters, Gertha Sanford of Cordova and Ozella Odom of Jasper; and a host of relatives and friends.

Sara Nell Smith, age 78, of Northport, died Dec. 7, 2010, at Hospice of West Alabama. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Ed Steelman officiating and Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lafund Smith; her parents, Robert and Trudie Hall; and her brother, Curtis Hall.

Survivors include her daughter, Regina Kay Marquis (Ken) of Northport; her sons, Douglas Wayne Smith and Donald Lee Smith (Sheila), both of Northport; her brother, Truman Hall of Tuscaloosa; her grandchildren, Kim Osborn (Brian), Britni Mitchell (Marc), Amanda Carpenter (Charlie), Lee Smith (Keri), Robert Smith, Bradley Swinson, and Blake Marquis; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bradley Swinson, Lawrence Hall, Lee Smith, Charlie Carpenter, Marc Mitchell, and Brian Osborn.

Honorary pallbearers are DCH Stroke Unit and Hospice of West Alabama.

She was born January 22, 1929 in the Aiken Community of Shelby County to James Clyde Hopkins and Neva Bridges Hopkins. Ms. Spurlock was a member of the XYX Club of Shelby County and the Joaquin VFD Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Joaquin.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm , Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm , Friday, November 12, 2010 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Elmer Mathews officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Shelby County .

Lela (Polly) Turner went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 7,
2010. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved her family and
her Savior Jesus Christ. She will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Turner, and her daughter,
Carol Jean Turner.

She is survived by two sons, Danny Turner (Teresa) and Ronnie Turner
(Lisa); one daughter, Gayle Lollar (Jimmy); nine grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Lottie Estelle Tyer
Funeral for Lottie Estelle Tyer, 90, of Groves and formerly of Timpson will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home Chapel in Timpson with the Rev. Clark Stricklin officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Timpson. Tyer died September 16, 2005 at her residence. Born July 25, 1915, in the Rehobeth community, she was the daughter of George and Myrtis Wright Rhodes. She was married to Eugene Tyer and he preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Edward Tyer of Spring; daughters, Paula Philen of Kingwood and Janis Epperson of Groves; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Taylor Funeral Home.
