Homegoing Celebration For

Lola Davis Washington Pierce

Lola Davis was born September 2, 1907 in Austin Co., Texas to Henry Davis and Stacey Cleveland. She attended public school in Rocky Creek. Lola had professed Christ in her life at an early age.

 

She married Booker T. Washington Sr. on April 19, 1924 and to this union there were five children, Goldie, Booker T., John Henry, Matthew and Ermadene.

 

Early life she attended Smith Chapel A.M.E. Church in Rosenberg, Tx. Then she later moved to Kansas. When she returned home she moved to Kenny, Tx. Where she met and married Lester Pierce.

 

As she made her life in Kenny she attended Jackson Chapel A.M.E. Church and was a faithful member and also served on the Steward and Stewardess Board.

 

As her age progressed she eventually moved to Rosenberg, Tx with her eldest daughter, Goldie Preston.

 

Only July 19, 2002, God called her name and Lola said, “I’m ready.” Lola departed this life at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Tx.

 

She was proceded in death by her parents, two spouses Booker T. and Lester, and two sons: Booker T., Jr. and Matthew

 

She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Goldie Washington Preston, of Rosenberg, Tx and Ermadene Washington McClure of Wellington, Kansas and one son John Henry Washington (Ruthie) of Wellington, Kansas. One daughter-in-law, Mayvella Washington. Three step-children: Bessie, Frankie and Maxine. Twenty-five grandchildren, Sixty great grandchildren and and Fifty-nine great-great grandchildren who will all miss her dearly.

 

Funeral Service: Wednesday, July 24, 2002, 11:00 a.m., Jackson Chapel A.M.E., Kenny, Texas, Pastor Dixie Lyons, officiating, Rev. Kevin Bullock, eulogy.

 

Active Pallbearers: Booker T. Washington, III, John H. Washington, Jr., Eric Lamont Washington, Wilbert Preston, Sr., Bruce Washington, and Lawrence H. Washington.

 

Honorary Pallbearers: John H. Washington, Sr., Floyd Preston, Steven Anderson, Robert Preston, Michael W. Washington, Leslie Washington, Ennis “Poppie” Mayberry, and Quinn Preston.

 

Interment: Kenny Cemetery, Kenny, Texas

Final Arrangements Entrusted to: Diggs, Bellville, Texas
