Pfc. Kyle M. Holder, 18, of The Woodlands, died Wednesday at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered in a noncombat incident, the Department of Defense announced Thursday.

Holder enlisted in February and was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 38th Cavalry Regiment (Reconnaissance and Surveillance), 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C.

His unit is known as the Lightning Brigade, according to the Fort Bragg Public Affairs Office.

“Our squadron mourns the loss of one of our young troopers, Pfc. Kyle Holder,” said Lt. Col. James Gaylord, commander of the 1st Squadron, 38th Cavalry Regiment. “Pfc. Holder volunteered to serve our nation and
his presence will be missed.

“Our hearts go out to his entire family.”

Holder arrived at Fort Bragg in October, where he was assigned to Charlie Troop as a rifleman, an official at Ft. Bragg said. The official said he did not know the nature of the incident in which Holder received
his injuries.

The cause of Holder’s death is under investigation, according to the release.
|
Holder’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal Posthumous, Army Good Conduct Medal Posthumous, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal Posthumous, Global War on Terrorism
Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and NATO Medal Posthumous.

Holder is survived by his parents, Bryant Kent Holder and Michelle Marie Holder, of The Woodlands, and a sister, Stefanie Nicole Holder, also of The Woodlands. His family did not wish to comment Thursday
evening.

Memorial and funeral arrangements have yet to be determined.
