San Augustine County, Texas

The Cradle of Texas Independence

Williams (County-line) Cemetery

Printed with permission of the San Augustine Public Library Board of Directors.  Originally contributed by Billie Faye Brown Gary, Mary Ann Powell Gary, Jay Gardner and Deborah Herms. Re-visited by Billy Joe William and Suzanne Storey Sowell in 2013.

Location: 1.1 miles south on Hwy 96 to Bronson; turn on FM 2866.  Go 1.1 miles cross Hwy 83 to the dirt road, go about 4.25 miles to the end of the main dirt road.  Keep to the left on an old dirt road.  Go 1.2 miles to the fork of the road.  Take the right go about 2.25 miles.  The cemetery is located to the left in the wood near Sam Rayburn Lake.  There is a chain link fence around the cemetery.  The cemetery was vandalized in the past and many of the markers were destroyed or damaged.

In 2013, the fence surrounding the cemetery has been damaged by fallen trees.  The cemetery is over grown.  It is very difficult to find the markers.  Only two were found at that time.   It is surmised that Henry Williams and his wife Mary Mitchell Williams may be two of those listed below.
