John and two of his sons, Thomas and Armstead Chumley enlisted in Captain Thomas S. McFarland’s Company on 4th of July 1836.

When Delilah passed away she was laid to rest near their home site.  John joined her in 1859 and their son Alex in 1861.  The wooden crosses which marked their graves have long been gone.  The cemetery today is enclosed in a chain link fence on private property.
