Williams (Old) Cemetery

Printed with permission of the San Augustine Public Library Board of Directors.  Originally contributed by Barbara Wall Harvey and updated by Juanice Harvey Beard.

Location:   This cemetery is located about 5 miles from Broaddus.  Take Hwy 147 toward Zavalla about 2.2 miles.  Turn right on FM 3183, go about 1 miles, turn right towards Hickory hollow.  The cemetery is to the right of the last curve before you get to Hickory Hollow, out in the woods.

According to information, the old Williams Cemetery was rather large at one time, but only parts of three stones are there now and they are not turned in the right direction.  Large rocks are scattered about and there are many sunken places indicating more graves.  It is impossible to determine the number of unmarked graves because of large trees and underbrush.  From various sources, it is thought there are at least 20 graves in this cemetery.
