Wood-Snell Cemetery

Location:  6 miles sowutheast of Broaddus.  Take Hwy 83, turn right on FM 2390 to the second crossroads, turn right and follow the signs.  The cemetery cannot be seen from the road.  It is along a trail that goes behind the former home of Tom and Leona Harvey Snell.  The cemetery is enclosed within a chain link fence.  This cemetery was orginally known as the Harvey Cemetery until Sam Rayburn Lake was build, the name of the cemetery was changed to Wood-Snell Cemetery.  It was named for two of the sons-in-law of Blassingham W Harvey, Eias Owen Hawthorne Wood and Joseph Orlando Snell.

At the time of the original indexing, there were 36 monuments in the cemetery.  The exact number of unmarked graves cannot be determined.

*On the first census of the Republic of Texas, Sarah Wyche, age 80, (married George Wyche 8-Nov-1799 in Chatham Co., GA) widow, is living between the B.W. Harvey family and Thomas Freeman Prather, age 24, single.  Sarah Wych evidently came to Texas with Stephen Prather and his children.
