Mehitable Higginbotham Sez
aka Vera Meek Wimberly

Mehitable Higginbotham at DAR Meeting
in May 1995 at home of C C Edwards

Vera Meek Wimberly created "Mehitable Higginbotham" who is a retired county clerk in the mountains of Kentucky or Tennessee in 1978 [See MCGS Celebrates its second anniversary from The Courier, September 20, 1978, p 7b] as a way to educated and entertain researchers on libraries and courthouse etiquette, and other tools that are helpful even today to those new to genealogy research. Mehitable Higginbotham spoke at various genealogical and historical societies all over Texas including the Walker County Genealogical Society, Austin Genealogical Society, Houston Genealogical Forum as well as MCGS and many others.

Lena Truster, MCG&HS President and 2000 Hall of Fame winner, paid tribute to Mehitable Higginbotham when she played Mehitable honoring Vera as Charter Member of the Century at MCG&HS' September 2000 Founders' Day Dinner. Take a gander at Vera's credentials in her own words.

I personally would like to thank Vera's daughter, Gay Lockler, for sharing Mehitable's teachings with us.
