From Conroe take I-45 South to FM1488 toward Magnolia. Go about 13 miles and  turn left onto Spur 149. The cemetery is on Spur 149. It's close to Pinehurst, Texas) Key Map 213L.

If you would like your name added as a contact on any of the people that is listed in any cemetery, please Jane Keppler and I will add this information.  This would be a great way to find someone else that may be researching your ancestor.

My mother Ollie Damuth Ware  is buried between Walter Howard Damuth and Doris Damuth Gambrell.  You can add my address as a contact for her.  It is gastolfo@houston.rr.com

Sarah Whitaker Pillow
My cousin and I have recently had a stone placed in Tillis Prairie Cemetery in memory of our gr gr grandmother, Sarah Whitaker Pillow.  She died in 1863 and was the mother of three Confederate soldiers, who were serving at the time of her death. The three younger children were given homes with the neighbors in the Tillis Prairie area.  Her brother Alexander Whitaker lived just south of the cemetery and had the stagecoach stop between Houston and Huntsville.  He preceded her in death and is probably buried there also.  We have a family record saying that Sarah was buried in Mostyn Cemetery (Tillis Prairie).

Please enter her data on the cemetery information and record me as a contact if anyone is interested in researching the family.  Her tombstone reads:

Sarah Whitaker Pillow

May 11, 1815 - Nov. 1863

Wife of William Barton Pillow

Tillis Prairie Cemetery is located thirteen miles south of Montgomery and is east of Magnolia. The cemetery is known as Mostyn Cemetery for the early burials there in the late 1850s. Sarah Pillow was buried there in 1863. A memorial marker has been placed there, for the actual location of the burial plot has been lost.

A stagecoach stop was located on the south side of the cemetery. It served the stagecoach route from Houston to Huntsville and was owned by Alex Whitaker, brother of Sarah Pillow. Alex lived there with his family and rented rooms to travelers. On one occasion, a posse of men followed brothers who were participants in the war in Shelby County and found one of the men in bed with the sheriff. One of the fellows was the brother in law to Alex Whitaker.

Jess Willard Vaught
Sunrise: January 5, 1915 Sunset: December 11, 2003
Willard was the last gentleman of an era of early settlers in the Magnolia/Tomball communities. Willard was the son of Jim Bartlett and Nellie Vaught. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, son Michael Vaught, daughter Peggy Rutter and all of his six brothers and sisters. Survivors include daughter, Sharon Vaught Thompson; son-in-law Maurice Rutter. Willard also leaves to mourn special granddaughter Candice Ogan, husband Andy and their daughter Kirsten. Other grandchildren and their families, Terri and John Hurley; Tracy and Tanya Rutter; Todd and Erin Rutter. Willard also leaves a host of nieces and nephews of whom he always spoke so fondly. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and nephews. Willard was a loving and devoted husband father, uncle and grandfather. Willard will be forever loved and missed by all. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home in Tomball. Funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m., at the Klein Funeral Home Chapel in Tomball with interment in the Mostyn-Damuth Cemetery in Magnolia.
