Welcome to the Austin County, TXGenWeb Project site!  My name is Jane Keppler and I am the
County Coordinator for Austin County.  If you have an interest in helping to maintain this site, please

Cecil Thomas Cloyd

Permission granted on 11/24/2019 from Katrina Cloyd Wenger, katrinawenger@yahoo.com , Granddaughter to use her information about her grandfather. 


"My grandfather, Cecil Thomas Cloyd, Sr., born Sept 30, 1896 to Perry Rial Cloyd and Margaret Zillah Young Cloyd in Belleview, Texas. He was married to Inita Lucille Finch in May 1932 and had on child, a son, Cecil Thomas Cloyd, Jr., in May of 1933. They were divorced about 3 years later. He was in the Argonne Forest in France during WWI. He saved his own life by using the gas mask from a dead soldier when they were gassed. In 1942 Cecil "Monkey" joined the Merchant Marine ..."
According to the attached newspaper clipping, he joined the Merchant Marine in the spring of 1942 after being rejected by the other Armed Services.
