ESTHER (ECKERMANN) BASTIAN

Funeral services for Esther Bastian, 94, were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2003 from First United Methodist Church in Industry, Texas with Rev. Patricia Newcomer officiating. Burial followed in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Industry.

She was born May 20, 1909 to Herman and Emilie Eckermann in Austin County, Texas. Esther's family moved to Houston, Texas when she was quite young.

She graduated from Reagan High School in Houston. While traveling with the Women's Auxiliary of the Houston Police Department Sharp Shooters, she was featured in an article in the publication Field and Stream. Also, during this period, Esther won several prestigious medals for her sharp shooting.

Esther married Barnett Robinette on April 12, 1952 and resided in Houston a number of years. Barnett Robinette died on November 19, 1967 and Esther moved to Brenham. Esther remarried in Round Top on May 16, 1981 to Joe Bastian of New Ulm. Joe died November 10, 1987 in Bohne Hospital in Brenham.

Esther Bastian died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 in Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village.

Esther is survived by stepdaughter Virginia Galyean of Houston, stepson Lee Allen Bastian and wife Betty of New Ulm, stepdaughter-in-law Mary Robinette of Bryan, Texas, sister-in-law Ida Wendler of Bellville, grandchildren Terri Green and husband Scott of Keller, Texas, Vicky Galyean of Houston, Texas, Billy Robinette of Austin, Texas, Kathy Howard and husband Rick of College Station, Texas, John Robinette and wife Michelle of Madison, Georgia and several cousins and great grandchildren.

Memorial may be given to First United Methodist Church of Industry. Funeral services were in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, Brenham, Texas.
