Funeral services for Lee Roy Matocha, 70, of Fayetteville and longtime
host of the Lee Roy Matocha Czech Hour and Radio Polka Shows, was held at
10 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003 from St. Johnıs Catholic Church in
Fayetteville with the Rev. Jack Maddux, Msgr. Ben Mazurkiewicz and the Rev. Walter
Matus officiating.
Interment followed in the Fayetteville Catholic Cemetery. A parish and
K.J.T. rosary was held at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Johnıs Catholic Church in
Fayetteville. Visitation was from 8 a.m. Monday until 5:30 p.m. at the
Knesek Chapel in Fayetteville.
Lee Roy was born August 2, 1932 in LaGrange, the son of the late Louis
and Emilie (Zbranek) Matocha. He married Doris Emily Malota April 17, 1955
in Fayetteville.
He began his musical career in 1947 playing the accordion with his
uncleıs group ³The Zbranek Accordion Band² and in 1952 joined the ³Lee
Ilse Orchestra² until 1964 when he formed ³The Lee Roy Matocha Orchestra.² He
then stopped his work at the Altar Gravel Pit in Eagle Lake to devote his
time to leading his orchestra. recording music and hosting his radio polka
shows. The Lee Roy Matocha ³Czech Hour² was heard on the LaGrange,
Brenham, Gonzales, E1 Campo, Kennedy-Karnes City, Cameron and Columbus radio
stations for 41 years. He also played accordion for the Fayette Czech Heritage
Singers and enjoyed sports especially baseball, dominoes and trains. He
was a member of St. Johnıs Catholic Church in Fayetteville, St. Isidore
Society, K.J.T. and S.P.J.S.T.
He passed away suddenly at the Fayette Memorial Hospital in LaGrange
July 12, 2003 at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 10 days.
He was
preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Emilie (Zbranek) Matocha; infant
grandson, Lee Allan Matocha Jr.; two sisters, Beatrice and husband Oscar
Gentry and Lillian Fajkus; infant brother, Frankie Matocha; sister-in-law,
Lorene Polasek; and brothers-in-law, Laddy and Rudy Malota.
Survivors include: his wife of 48 years, Doris Matocha; five children,
Eileen and husband Jeff Graeter, Lee Allan and wife Becky Matocha, all of
Fayetteville, Janice and husband Mike Marek of Cameron, Mark and wife Lisa
Matocha of Fayetteville, Lori and husband John Spiess of Industry; 11
grandchildren, Michelle Matocha, John Michael Marek, Bethany Matocha,
James Marek, Kaleb Matocha, Noah Matocha, Gabrielle Matocha, Jonathan Spiess,
Jordan Spiess, Julie Marek and Grace-anne Matocha; two sisters, Isabell
Goebel of Winchester and Lucy and husband Eddie Wisnoski of Manvel;
brother, Louis Jr. and wife Dora Matocha of Highlands; brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law, Bill Fajkus of Houston, Angeline and husband Bennie
