Funeral services for Jane Brune, 78, of Sealy were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 from the First United Methodist Church in Sealy with Rev. Merle Blado and Rev. John Tyler officiating. Entombment was in the Haven of Rest Mausoleum in Sealy.

Pallbearers for the service were Sidney Levine, Leroy Zapalac, Billy Schavrda, Bill Burttschell, Frank Vecera, Jay Lewellen, James Schroeder, and Russell Koym with the Methodist Men Club as honorary
pallbearers.

The former Jane Hicks was born to parents Floyd Dunbar and Beulah King Hicks of Bluffdale, Texas. She was raised in Glen Rose and graduated from Glen Rose High School in 1942. Jane worked for her parents' newspaper at the age of 14, the United States Army Air Corp. in Dec. 1942, Exxon Oil and Refinery in Katy and the Sealy News with her parents.

On Nov. 13, 1949, she married Dee E. Brune in DeLeon.

Jane was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sealy since 1950 where she served on many boards and committees, as head usher, and lay reader, and helped decorate the Christmas tree for many years. She was a member of the Sealy Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames of the XVII Century and First Families of Mississippi, Sealy Garden Club, Austin County Peace Officers and Auxiliary, and chairperson of the committee to build the Lions Club Park Gazebo during the 1976 Bicentennial year. Jane loved to travel taking trips to Europe, Egypt, Jordon, Greece and the Holy Land. She also was a fan of classical music, attending the Houston Grand Opera for many years. Jane's sense of humor, tireless civic and church work, and love for her family ended Jan. 14, 2004 at her home in Sealy.

Survivors include her daughters Kay Ann Latona and husband Jack of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Rebecca Brune of Houston; granddaughters Jane E. Latona Diseker and Sara Latona Samuelson; great grandchildren Jack and Grace Diseker and Jacob Samuelson, brother Bill Hicks of Palm Desert, CA, and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services were held under the direction of the Knesek Family Funeral Chapel of Sealy.
