Mary Martinez Cardenas was born on July 11, 1919 in Georgetown the daughter of Marcelino Martinez and Agapita Longoria Martinez. She attended high school in Georgetown and in her adult life lived in several places including Pearland, South Houston and Katy before making her home Bellville. Mary loved reading her Bible every day and enjoyed going crafts in her free time. She was a member of the Iglesia El Consolador Church in Katy. Mary passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2004 at Briarwood Manor Care Center at the age of 85. She is survived by her children, Andrew Hernandez of Jarrel; Lupie Castro, Rufus Martinez and Fred Martinez, all of Bryan, Madeline Sauceda of Housotn, Gloria Soto of South Houston and Janie Bennett of Bellville; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lupe Cardenas; and her parents. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville with the Rev. Tom Knight officiating. Pallbearers were Jimmy Salat, Michael Soto, Robert Soto, Timothy Martinez and Rueben Garcia. Graveside services were held Wedesday, at 2 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, Houston. Posted by Joy Neely
