ROSALYN MARIK
Bellville Times
Funeral services for Rosalyn Marik, 91, of Bellville, were held Saturday,
April 24, 2004 at 10 a.m. from Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in
Bellville with the Rev. Tim Bucek celebrating the funeral mass and rite of
committal. Interment was in the Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville. Serving as
pallbearers were Trey Marik, Tommy Marik, Jamie Marik, Mark Powell, Anna
Powell and J.D. Sabrasula.
Rosalyn was born in Industry, the daughter of William F. Boelsce and Lenora
Knolle Boelsche. She was raised in Industry and graduated from Industry High
School in 1929. To broaden her education, Rosalyn attended one year in
Houston at Sam Houston High School. After 3 years at Sam Houston State
Teachers College, she accepted a position as one of the three teachers at
the Bernard Prairie School in Wharton County. Her father insisted that she
complete her education, so after 3 summers at the University of Texas in
Austin, she graduated from Sam Houston in August of 1936.
On December 26, 1936, Rosalyn married Charles James Marik in Holy Cross
Catholic Church in East Bernard. In 1941 Rosalyn and Charles moved to
Industry. Following the birth of their 2 children, Rosalyn became very
active in the school and with youth. She was an outstanding leader in the
P.T.A. and founded a Girl Scout troop, which she lead for many years.
In 1959, the Marik family moved to Bellville and Rosalyn continued her
interest in education and community. She was instrumental in the development
of the Bellville Public Library and devoted countless hours to Catholic
organizations at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Although Rosalyn was
basically a very private person and loved nothing better than a challenging
crossword puzzle, she was well versed on the social and family issues of her
day and was often the speaker for organization meetings. She was also an
accomplished pianist and had the gift of being able to play by ear. During
recent short stays in a nursing home, she played for the residents. She was
a member of the Alter Society, K.J.Z.T., Catholic Daughters, Industry P.T.A.
and a past member of the Library Board.
