RUSSELL LEE MCCOMBS

Russell Lee McCombs was born in Dallas County in 1945. Since that time he
has achieved several accomplishments in his life. He graduated from Texas A
& M University in 1967. He was a research associate at A & M for ten years
and holds many publications and patents there. He worked on many projects at
A & M as well. One of which was helping Exxon extend the life of Rotary
Drill Collars and Make-up Proof Test procedures for oil field tubular. He
worked with the Scripts Institute of Oceanography on deep water drilling and
the recovery of a sunken Russian submarine. One of his most talked about
accomplishments was working as a Trapezoidal Pipeline Designer on the above
ground portion of the Trans Alaskan Pipeline System. After school he
continued his work in the oil field and contributed several other great
improvements to the industry. For the last 26 years Russell and Deborra
owned R-Mac Advertising.
Russell moved to Bellville with his wife Deborra in 1984. Since that time he
has been a member of the Bellville United Methodist Church.
He has been a member and actively involved with the Bellville Historical
Society. Over the last 16 years he has donated countless hours to the
Historical Society's Food Booth Committee for the March and October Antiques
Shows. He has served on committees for Happy Birthday Bellville and the
Sesquicentennial Celebrations. He was Chairman for the Beard Growing Contest
and Apple Pie Contest, as well. He was a member of the Bellville Lions Club.
He has been an intrinsic part of Small Town Christmas produced by the
Bellville Chamber of Commerce, of which he was also a member. Most recently,
he secured donations and volunteered his man-hours to the restoration of the
Bellville Volunteer Fire Department's 1946 KB6 International Fire Engine #2
on which he arrived as Santa. Additionally, he accomplished the complete
restoration of, "Gracie", a 1947 Chevrolet Fleetline Deluxe sedan.
Russell Lee McCombs, age 58,  passed away on June 21, 2004 in Bellville,
Texas.
Russell McCombs is survived by his wife of 24 years, Deborra McCombs; two
children, Kevin McCombs and wife, Sally Nergaard-McCombs, Karen Crook and
husband, Gary Crook; four grandchildren, Dylan Crook, Macy McCombs, Milay
McCombs and Natalie Nergaard; sister, Sue Ann Curtis and her son, Lance
Calloway; and brother, Ernest McCombs Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Lee and Dorothy Mozell
McCombs.
Memorial services, officiated by the Rev. Carmen Rickle,  were held on
Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. at Bellville United Methodist Church
from Knesek Family Funeral Chapels, Bellville.
