Marilyn Mathis Prejean, was born November 21, 1946 in Houston to Neil and
Odie Mathis, who preceded her in death. Marilyn slipped quietly into the
arms of Jesus at 5:25 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2004, at her home with her
family by her side.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 36 years, Bob Prejean and their
daughter, Amy Elizabeth Johnson and her husband Brain. Surviving also is her
brother Mike Mathis, His wife Glenda, and nephew Joey Mathis.
Marilyn graduated from Baylor University in 1968 with a BS in Nursing, and
worked as an RN at Memorial Baptist Hospital in Houston. In 1988, Marilyn
achieved a Master's Degree in Psychology at Houston Baptist University and
was a licensed Professional Counselor in Texas.
Marilyn was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, always a lady,
courageous in illness and in all, a Christian. With Bob by her side all the
way, she fought a valiant battle with grace and poise and was able to enjoy
life to the utmost. She was active in her church and community and was
currently serving as president of the blue Ridge Garden Club.
Marilyn collected many things and one of her most prized collections was her
friends. She cherished them, encouraged them, loved them, and held them
close to her heart. Bob and Marilyn retired and moved to North Carolina from
Texas in 1998. Their friends her in Texas ached to see them leave, but the
Bethel Community and Bethel Baptist Church welcomed them in and soon another
circle of friends was formed.
Marilyn was buring in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Vilas, North
Carolina, on June 15, 2004, which was their 36th wedding anniversary.
