CHARLIE FRITZ KALKOMEY, JR.

Charlie Fritz Kalkomey, Jr. was born on Nov. 20, 1921 on a farm in the Big
Creek area, about 12 miles south of Richmond, Fort Bend County, Texas, to
Charlie Fritz Kalkomey, Sr. and Emma Sophie Henryette Seyer. He passed away
April 4, 2006 at his residence in Richmond, Texas.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, he enlisted in the U. S.
Marine Corps that same month. He was assigned to active duty in the South
Pacific and was a part of the fighting on Tulagi and Guadalcanal.  The 2nd
Marines moved on to Tarawa, where on his 22nd birthday, he was wounded in
combat. He received a Purple Heart for his service, and was Honorably
Discharged on Dec. 14, 1944.
In 1950, he went to work for S.A. Russell and Associates, a local Rosenberg
engineering and surveying company. Over the next 20 years, he became one of
the most well-known surveyors in Fort Bend and the surrounding counties. It
was at S.A. Russell and Associates that he met LaNelle Jean Dujka, and they
were married on Feb. 25, 1951.
On Aug. 23, 1961, Charlie received his Texas registration as a Registered
Professional Land Surveyor.
In 1970, he started Charlie Kalkomey Surveying, Inc. For the next 36 years,
he surveyed over 18,000 separate tracts of land in Fort Bend, Austin,
Brazoria, Harris, Matagorda, Colorado, Waller and Wharton Counties.
Charlie was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rosenberg
since 1951, where he had served as Elder, Deacon, Trustee, Clerk of Session
and Treasurer. He was the chairman of the building committee when the
current facility on Radio Lane was constructed. He was also a past commander
of the VFW and a member of the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors.
Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., Thursday, April 6, 2006 at
Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 7, 2006 at the First
Presbyterian Church of Rosenberg with the Rev. Jack Livingston and Charles
A. Kalkomey, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial
Park in Rosenberg.
