CHARLES ARTHUR "BUBBA" MEWIS
Bellville Times
 
Charles Arthur "Bubba" Mewis was born on April 11, 1933 to Colbert and Anita
Hildebrandt Mewis in Bellville. He died Saturday, May 13, 2006 with his
family members by his side.
A third generation cattle rancher, Bubba graduated from Bellville High
School where he provided the first live Brahma mascot.
He married Janie Elaine Hohlt on April 6, 1952.
They moved into their home at 2668 FM 529 where they raised two daughters.
Preceded in death by his parents, Colbert and Anita Mewis, Bubba is survived
by his wife of 54 years, Janie; daughters and their husbands -- Cheryl and
Eddie Sackett of Pinedale, WY; and Kim and David Jackson, of Bellville;
grandchildren, Matt Jackson and wife Yanya, Mandi Verm and Nikki Mendoza of
Bellville; great-granddaughters, Jordan and Brook; sister and brother-in-law
-- Janet LaVergne; Joyce and Walter Koehn; and Judith and Dean Lewis; and
many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Roy Mewis, Stanley Jackson, W.T.. Byler, Dusty Kendrick,
Roger Krueger and Ricky Huff. Honorary pallbearers included Leroy Keaton,
Wylie Bass, Brad Templeton, Heath Wiktorik, Kyle Holloway, Matt Waak, Fred
Luhn, Harold Luhn, Robert Ueckert, Mike Koehn, Dr. Christopher LaVergne,
Mark Koehn and Bobby Lange.
Bubba was involved with the Austin County Fair Assoc. for 59 years, serving
as president for several terms. He served as ambassador for the fair at many
functions and he was Rodeo Committee chairman and head of the Youth Sale
Committee. 
Bubba was a strong supporter of the Women's Auxiliary sale while heading up
the sale committee.
He was a life time member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and was
recently made a recipient of the Justin Rodeo Committee Man of the Year
award.
He was one of the founding fathers of the Austin county Summer Youth Horse
program and he is included in the Hall of Fame for  the Austin county Youth
Rodeo Assoc. 
He was an honorary Chapter Farmer and Honorary State Farmer with the FFA.
He has been a strong supporter of the Austin County Fair Parade, serving as
Marshal in 1996.
In lieu of flowers, Bubba has requested a donation be made to either the
Nelsonville Brethren Church Building fund or the Hospice Brazos Valley in
his name.
