    Funeral services for Joe W. Novosad, 87, of Sealy, Texas were held
Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. from Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church in Sealy with Rev. Octavio Muguerza celebrating the Funeral Mass and
Rite of Committal. Interment was at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Sealy.
Pallbearers serving were Murrell Nichols, Al Brown, Danny Nichols, Ralph
Dierschke, Daniel Orsak, Ronney Nichols, Nick Tirey and Billy Schavrda.
    Born July 18, 1918 in Sealy, Texas, Joe was the son of John F. and Rosie
(Kutra) Novosad. He later moved to Frydek where he attended Frydek Public
School and also helped on the family farm. Joe was also known as ³Big
Joe-Pepicek² and ³Honey Joe². He also worked in construction and helped
build the Bridge over Brazos River for Hwy 90, ³his pet project.² Joe
enlisted into the U.S. Army on June 24, 1941 at Houston, Texas. He attained
the rank of Corporal after his basic training in the horse Cavalry and Cook
School. Joe served in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatre of
Operations as a member of Troop C, 17th Cavalry Recon Squadron. After the
Normandy beachhead was (established) secured in France, he was sent to
Normandy where he participated in the Normandy Southern and Northern France
Campaigns. It was here that, on August 3, 1944, Joe was captured by the
German Army near St. Malo, France and was a prisoner of War for nine months
on Jersey Island (off the coast of France) until his release in May l945.
Joe earned several medals and was honorably discharged from Fort Sam Houston
on November 28, l945. Joe married Lillian ³Tootsie² Moore on September
19,1970. They lived in Highlands and were avid dancers and belonged to
several dance clubs. After Joe retired from Exxon, he and Tootsie moved to
Sealy, Texas. Joe became interested in bee-keeping in Highlands and
continued capturing bee hives and extracting honey when they moved to Sealy.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, KJT of Sealy, the
Sealy American Legion and the VFW in Rosenberg. Joe W. Novosad passed away
Sunday, July 9, 2006 in Bellville, Texas.
    Joe is survived by his two sisters Albina Loescher and Mary Gajewski,
two nieces Karen Loescher Burtschell and husband Bill, Sharon Novosad Diaz
and husband Michael, four great-nephews, Brad Burtschell and wife Stephanie,
Adam Burtschell, Cody and Jason Diaz, and one great-grandnephew Jackson
Burtschell and several step family members.
