Funeral services for Libuse Cerny, 92, of Bellville were held Thursday, May
10, 2007 at 1 p.m. from Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapels in Bellville with the
Rev. Robert Stutes officiating. Interment was at the Hartsville Cemetery in
Wallis. Pallbearers serving were Tony Hancock, Fred Deutrich, B.J. Gutowsky
and Lee Sandoval.
Libuse Cerny was born Dec. 12, 1914 in Waller County and died May 6, 2007 in
Bellville at the age of 92 years 4 months and 24 days.
She was the daughter of Alois and Marie Frances Cerny. She graduated from
Reagan High School in Houston, and earned a Bachelor's degree from the
University of Texas. Libuse could speak seven languages  English, French,
Russian, Spanish, Czech, Slovak and German. She was an interpreter for the
Department of Defense in Washington, D.C., and she retired after 39 years of
service.
She was a member of American Sokol, Washington D.C. chapter, an ethnic,
educational, and physical culture organization promoting health, general
welfare, and good citizenship of Americans of Czech and Slovak origin. She
served for 34 years as the organization's recording secretary, and until the
time of her death, was one of only five remaining active charter members.
She was an avid reader, and loved ballroom dancing. She enjoyed providing
for others, especially in her efforts to assist others with educational
opportunities.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jacquelyn and J.D. Sabrsula of
Bellville, Judy and Michael Cyphers of Mt. Shasta, Calif., great nieces and
nephews, Kelly Deutrich Hancock and husband Tony, Michael Anton Cyphers,
Caley Cyphers, Jo Dean Quintero and husband Lee Sandoval, Sharon Smith and
husband Tommy, Tammy Luce and husband Michael, II, great-great nieces and
nephews, Lillie Alexandria Hancock, Ainsley Jewell Hancock, Spc. Michael
Quintero and fiance Sara Kalinowski, Pvt. E2 David Quintero and wife
Christina, Jeffrey Harper, Trevor Harper, Parker Ray Smith, Hunter Luce,
Jonathon Luce and Alton Luce.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alois and Marie Cerny, by her
brother and sister-in-law, Jarda and Itasca Cerny and by her great nephew,
Kyle Sterling Deutrich.
Funeral arrangements under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels in
Bellville.
