Florine Janice Langberg Wilcox was called home to her Lord and savior on
Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007.
The family welcomed visitors on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007 at the Schmidt
Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. and services were held on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007
at 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville, Texas. Officiating the
celebration of Mrs. Wilcox's life was Pastor Jim Berggren of the Holy Cross
Lutheran Church in Houston, Pastors David Henske and Jennie Jones both of
St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville.
Born on Nov. 11, 1927, in Bellville, Florine was a joyous addition to the
family of Frieda and Walter Langberg and sister of Evelyn Langberg Brandt.
Mrs. Wilcox attended school in Bellville and was a graduate of Bellville
High School.
She was baptized on April 1, 1928 and later confirmed in the Lutheran church
on March 29, 1942. Psalms 85:11 always held a special place in the heart of
Florine, as this was the memory verse for her confirmation.
After her graduation from high school, Florine attended Texas Lutheran
University and then moved to Houston where she made her home until her
death.
Mrs. Wilcox spent her career as a homemaker and a loving dedicated mother to
her three children: William, Charles and Janice.
Mrs. Wilcox was an active member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in
Houston and will always be remembered for her kindness and her love for the
Lord. She will be missed by all other dear friends and acquaintances at Holy
Cross Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Wilcox is survived by her sons, William Wilcox and his wife, Donna, of
Katy and their three children, Cecelia Weathers and her husband, Eric, of
Austin and Adrianna and Erica Wilcox. Charles Wilcox and his wife, Dawn, and
their son, Christian, all of Montgomery. Daughter Janice Van Duesen of
Houston, and her children, Marissa and Stephen Van Duesen of Conroe and
Houston respectfully. Mrs. Wilcox also has two great grandchildren, David
and Delilah Van Duesen.
Mrs. Wilcox leaves behind many loved ones in the town of Bellville where
grew up. Among those survivors are her sister Evelyn Brandt and her husband,
Delmus, and nephew, John Douglas Brandt, all of Bellville. Nieces surviving
Mrs. Wilcox are Barbara Leonard and her husband; Dennis of Chicago, Ill.,
Lyndell Aschenbeck and her husband, Harvey of Bellville and Kay Sanders and
her husband, Irwin, of Brenham. Many great nieces and nephews also survive
their "Aunt Florine."
Harvey Aschenbeck, John Douglas Brandt, Erwin Sander, Herbert Schumann and
grandsons Stephen Van Duesen and Christian Wilcox were honored to serve as
pallbearers as Mrs. Wilcox was laid to rest beside her parents Frieda and
Walter Langberg at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Bellville.
The family wishes to thank her beloved friend Nora Kubeska who was at Mrs.
Wilcox's side throughout her battle with cancer, and also Dr. Barry Siller
and physicians assistant Julie for her compassion and care of Mrs. Wilcox
during her illness. Thank You from the bottom of our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations to Vitas'
Hospice at Memorial Hermann Hospital be made in order to further their
ability to comfort and care for not only their patients, but for the
