Elmer Vernon "Red" Ables, 89, of Bellville, passed away Monday, March 31, 2008 in Houston.
Funeral Services were held Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 11 a.m. from the West End Baptist Church, Industry, with the Rev. Dennis Keen, officiating. Internment was in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Industry. Pallbearers were Mike Ables, Chris Ables, Kenneth Turnage, Danny Turnage, Jonathan Holland and Scott McFadyen.
Red was born June 4, 1918, in Rochelle, Texas to Robert Rolle and Maggie Pearl (Williamson) Ables. Red was raised and attended school in Rochelle.
On April 6, 1940 he married Mary Louise in Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a veteran of WWII, serving as Army Engineer in the European Theater Operations; member of the Arabia Shrine Temple in Houston, life member of the Scottish Rite, and Arabian Knights Horse Drill Team.  He was a member of the West End Baptist Church in Industry.  He retired in 1976 from Armco Steel, Houston, Texas. 
He is survived by his wife  Louise Ables, of Bellville; daughter, Sandra Lynn Turnage and husband, David; son, Robert Vernon Ables and wife, Deborah, all of Bellville; sisters, Winnie Jenkins and Louise Penn of Dallas; grandchildren, Mike and Chris Ables of Bellville; Kenneth Turnage of Austin; Danny Turnage and Sandra Dee McFadyen, both of Houston; 9 great-grandchildren  & 4 great-great-grandchildren. 
Memorial Contributions may be made to the West End Baptist Church, P. O. Box 67, Industry, Texas 78944.
Services under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels in Bellville.
