Bellville Times

Arthur "Dick" Barrett, 91, of Bellville, Texas passed away Monday, February
18, 2008.
Dick was born to Austin B. and Alma Grace (Allen) Barrett on October 24,
1916 in Kenney, Texas. He was raised and attended school in Buckhorn
Community. He married Vera Opal Brooks on July 10, 1937 in Bellville, TX.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bellville, TX, Masonic Lodge
223, American Legion Post 115 and a veteran of WWII serving in the 807th
Army Air Force.  He retired from Mosher Steel Co., Houston, TX. in 1977
after 36 years of service.  Dick moved to Bellville on June 2, 1979 and
worked for Bellville Plumbing for 6 years.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Barrett, daughter-in-law Joyce Barrett,
grandchildren, Laura Lee Mercado and Donald Barrett, one great grandchild,
Jessica James Mercado, all of Sacramento, California, special niece, Ruth
Barrett Ellis and husband, Charles of Brookshire & numerous nieces, nephews
and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin B. Barrett and Alma (Allen)
Barrett, son, Gary Alton Barrett, brother, Jack Barrett, sister, Edrie
Barrett Woest, sister-in-law, Ruby Barrett Kokemor.
Funeral Services were held Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 2:00 PM from
Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Olsen, officiating. A flag
folding ceremony was performed by the American Legion Post #115 followed by
the Masonic Burial Rite by Masonic Lodge #223.  Interment was in Oak Knoll
Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Billy Armstrong, Glenn Alexander, Warren Klump,
Bill Johnson, Charlie Scott and Gary Gamble.  Honorary pallbearers were
Dwain Spaugh, Floyd Merten, Ryan Ellis, Austin Barrett, B.Y. Lynn, Milton
Shedd and Lee Persky.
