JOHANNA BARANOWSKI BARRETT

Bellville Times

Johanna (Baranowski) Barrett was born March 14, 1927, in Austin County. The daughter of John and Juliana (Kaliszewski) Baranowski, she grew up and attended school in Buckhorn.

Johanna married Halbert Barrett on Feb. 6, 1946, in Bellville.  Together Johanna and Halbert raised four children, while farming and ranching.

They made their home in Bellville where they were members of the Bellville United Methodist Church. Johanna had been employed at the Brenham State School and retired after 18 years of dedicated service. Halbert preceded Johanna in death Sept. 11, 1986. After his death, she continued working the family farm for 20 years.

She was an avid reader, enjoyed attending her church, and spending time with family and friends.  The highlight of her later years was traveling to Europe with her daughter and son-in-law and several of her friends.

Johanna was a beautiful lady, and everyone that met her always admired her youthful spirit and style. Whether she was known to you as “Mama”, “Mother”, “Grandma”, “JoJo”, aunt or friend, her special laugh and tender touch left you feeling blessed by her company.  She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
