Bridges
Elvera (Vera) Bridges, age 93, passed away Sunday March 2, 2008 at Oak Manor Nursing Home in Flatonia, Texas.
She was born September 12, 1914 in Bishop, Texas, the daughter of Julius and Esther Johnson Gustafson.
She married George Wyatt Bridges on June 30, 1940 in Austin, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Besides her parents and husband, Vera was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters and two granddaughters.
Vera was a homemaker and worked beside her husband from 1946 to 1977 at The Flatonia Argus newspaper. She was a member of the Flatonia Baptist Church. The couple was active in the Texas, Gulf Coast and South Texas Press Associations.
Vera is survived by her daughters, Mildred and husband Tom Crenshaw of Fort Worth and Blanche and husband Rodger Kruse of Bellville; sons Frank and wife Georgie of Goldthwaite and Kenneth and wife Jackie of Lewisville; and a brother Johnny and wife Harvene Gustafson of Austin. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Flatonia with interment in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Officiating at the final rites was Tim Rowell, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Flatonia. Special music was provided by grandson Stuart Bridges and family of Granbury who sang "Grand Reunion in Heaven."
Pallbearers were Darrell Gaertner, Justin Gaertner, Mark Todd, Stuart Bridges, Steven Bridges and Robert Barrett.
