Marie Helen Burk, 91, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, was called home to be with our Lord on April 17, 2008 in Brenham.
Services were held Monday, April 21, 2008 at 2 p.m. from Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Henske officiating. Interment was in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Pallbearers were Cowboy Hines, Seth Whitmire, George Werner, Kenneth Werner, Ron Lammert and Charles Lammert.
Marie was born July 10, 1916 to the Rev. Friedrich and Marie (Dube) Lammert in The Grove, Texas.
She received her Nursing Degree from John Sealy College of Nursing in Galveston, Bachelor of Science and Masters of Education at the University of Houston, and her Masters of Public health at the University of Texas Health and Science Center in Houston.
While working as a nurse during WWII, she met Carl Kenneth Burk. Six weeks later on July 8,1944 they were married in Houston. Carl and Marie were married 53 years,
Marie was very active in the Lutheran Church, and immensely enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening, making ceramics and teaching ceramic classes and collecting famous quotes. Marie was of the Lutheran faith and a faithful servant to her Lord, whom she loved so much. She was her granddaughter's hero.
Marie is survived by her daughter, AIetha Kendrick and husband, Darrell of Kenney; granddaughter. Lisa Johnson and husband, Darrell of Santa Fe, Texas, great grandson Ryan Johnson of Santa Fe, great grandchildren by adoption, Bradon and Nicole Diaz of League City, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved greatly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Friedrich and Marie Lammert, husband Carl Burk, infant daughter Elaine Burk, grandson Ryan Kendrick, brothers and sisters.
Services under the direction of Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel in Bellville.
