ROBERT BATISTE CHARPIOT

Robert Batiste (Bob) Charpiot was born on August 31,1923 in Raccoon Bend, Texas to A. A. (Bert) Charpiot and Ethel Thompson Charpiot.
He graduated from Bellville High School in 1941, and entered the University of Texas.
He was called to duty with the United States Air force in 1943. He completed his pilot training in 1944 at Fort Sumner, New Mexico and was stationed in England with the 8th Air Force where he completed 34 bombing missions over Germany.
He returned to the University upon discharge and received his degree in Civil Engineering in August of 1949.
He was married to Shirley Tucker on July 20, 1947 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
They had two sons: Robert A. and David B. Charpiot.
After graduation he worked for his father in the oilfield construction business. In 1954 they were joined by his brother-in-law Jack Dunn and formed Charpiot and Dunn.
Through out his life he was involved with the Boy Scouts of America. In 1973 he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, Scouting's highest civilian award.
He was a life long member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in which he graciously served in many various capacities.
Bob passed away in Bellville General Hospital, Bellville on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the age of 84.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley Charpiot of Bellville, sons Robert A. Charpiot and wife Janet of Houston, David B. Charpiot and wife Lura of Bellville, granddaughters, Elizabeth and Natalie Charpiot and Katie Charpiot Fleming and husband Josh, Nieces Susan Richardson and Nancy Smith of Bellville, and Nephew John T. Dunn of Houston. He is also survived by several dear first cousins.
A memorial service was held on Saturday March 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 24 N. Masonic Bellville, Texas with the Rev. Robert Gribble officiating.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make a memorial to the St. Mary's Episcopal Memorial Fund 24 N. Masonic Bellville, the R. B. Charpiot Scholarship Fund with the Texas Ex-Students Association c/o Wells Fargo Bank 24 East Main, Bellville, Texas 77418, or the charity of their choice.
