Roy Jackson “Jack” Chatham, Major, USAF Ret., age 86, passed away at home on Monday, May 5, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Maude Lee Chatham and his wife of 64 years, Florence Evelyn Chatham.  Jack was born on April 3, 1922 in Bellville.
After high school and one year of college, he joined the Army Air Corps in 1940. His 28 year career in the Air Force included serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.  He served with distinction and honor while stationed in the US and abroad. Jack always exhibited strong patriotism and a love for his country. Jack was always willing to serve whether it was for his country, or his fellow man. As a lifelong Baptist, Jack was a charter member of churches throughout the world including Alaska, Florida, Illinois, California and Japan. Since the 1970’s, he had been an active member of First Baptist Church in San Antonio where he was a Life Deacon.
He was past Chairman of the Deacons in addition to serving as a Sunday School Department Superintendent.
As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing world-wide. Some of his happiest times were spent on Braunig Lake and on his mountain in Big Bend. His other passion was playing 84 with his lifelong friends.
Jack is survived by his daughters:  Sara Chatham Tidmore of Bellville; Laurie Nan Mason and husband, Frank, of Longview; Jackie Chatham Young and husband, John, of Dallas; six grandchildren: Elizabeth R. Mason, John C. Mason, Matthew E. Mason, Katherine O. Young, John D. Young IV, Nancy E. Young and a goodly number of nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his loving wife, Jean Pearson Chatham and her children: Paul Pearson of San Antonio; Diann Reina and husband, Roy of San Antonio; Dawn Wales and husband, Bruce of New Braunfels; and five stepgrandchildren: Roy A. Reina, Ryan Reina, Roman Reina, Forrest Wales and Jacob Wales.  Visitation was Wednesday, May 7 from 6-8 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
Memorial service was Thursday, May 8,m 2008 at 1:30 p.m., from First Baptist Church, 515 McCullough Ave. in San Antonio.
Private interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.  Flowers are appreciated, but the family requests memorial contributions in Jack’s name, be made to the Television Ministry at First Baptist Church, 515 McCullough Ave., San Antonio, Texas  78215.  You are invited to sign the guestbook at www.porterloring.com <http://www.porterloring.com> .
