Joan Paulette (Jahnke) Dannhaus, 58, wife of Elroy Dannhaus, passed away Oct. 8, 2008 in Brenham.

Mrs. Dannhaus was born Feb. 15, 1950 in Brenham to Edward Walter and Flora Anna (Jaster) Jahnke. She was baptized April 16, 1950 in Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor R. J. Weber, and confirmed there on March 22, 1964, also by Pastor Weber.

She was Salutatorian of the Burton High School Class of 1968.

On March 23, 1969, she was married to Elroy Louis Dannhaus in Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville by Pastor Weber. 

She was employed by AT&T/Southwestern Bell for 39 years, and by Wal-Mart for 10 years.  She truly loved her jobs. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching the Astros, and tending to her many plants.  Joan loved animals, and was especially fond of taking drives with her “therapy” dog.

A member of Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville, she served as a Sunday School teacher and was a past Sunday School secretary.

Survivors include her husband, Elroy Dannhaus; son Scot Alan Dannhaus of Burnet; an uncle, LeeRoy Drews of Brenham; aunt, Norma Schaefer of Cleburne; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Laura Fieseler, Ben and Alice Dannhaus, Waldo Dannhaus, Edward and Sylvia Dannhaus, Doris and Milton Eckermann, Jr., all of Brenham, and Alice and Ron Neel of Bellville; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, co-workers,  and last but not least, her special dog and companion, Rebel.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Flora Jahnke; her grandparents, Edward and Sara Jahnke, and Ferdinand and Olga Jaster;   sister, Virginia Elaine Jahnke; mother-in-law and father-in-law Edward and Lillian Dannhaus; brothers-in-law Ernest Fieseler and Ralph Heisch; aunts and uncles Lona Jaster, Otto and Erna Jaster, Arnold and Ernestine Jahnke, Willie and Lydia Bohne, Joyce Drews, and Otto Schaefer; nephews, Carlos Sagardia and Kenneth Eckermann.

Funeral services for Joan Paulette Dannhaus were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville, with Pastor Virgil Pecht officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.  A visitation with family and friends will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel Friday evening  from 6 until 8 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers are Roy Hegefeld, Roy Dannhaus, Eugene Bothe, Otto Wehring, Jr., Dale Heisch, Ernest Lockett, Jr.,and Ross Hegefeld.  

Memorials may be directed to the Brenham Animal Shelter, Houston SPCA, American Cancer Society, Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville, or a charity of your choice.
