Emily Friedericke Wilke Gross passed away peacefully in Sealy on June 2, 2008 at the age of 91 years.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 10 a.m. from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wallis with the Rev. Ray Spitzenberger officiating. Internment was at Green Lawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
Pallbearers for the service  were  Kelly Schrock, James Nicholson, Carl White, Verdis Wilke, Harold Wilke, Lew Ellyn Gross, Ernest Rosenbaum, Jr. and Raymond Kueck.
Emily Friedericke Wilke was born in Welcome, Texas to parents Fredrick Gustaf Wilke and Phoebe Platte Wilke. She was baptized on March 4, 1917 in the Lutheran Church in Welcome. She was raised and attended school in Welcome. She was confirmed on March 20, 1932 in the Welcome Lutheran Church and later she became a member in Wallis at St. Paul Lutheran Church on April 27, 1958.
Emily married Arthur Gross on Dec. 11, 1944 in Sealy,, a blessed union which lasted until his death on March 22, 1994. She loved to work in her flower beds and was especially proud of her front yard which was covered with bluebonnets each spring. No one was allowed to mow the yard during this time.
She enjoyed baby sitting her grandchildren in their younger years. She enjoyed watching her television programs especially golf when Tiger Woods was playing. When she was healthy, she was always in Church, sitting in her favorite pew. When Arthur was homebound and she had to stay with him on Sundays, she would go out in her yard so that she could hear the Church bell at 9 a.m.
Emily is survived by her son  Erwin Wilke and his wife Evelyn of Wallis, three granddaughters, Deborah McCain of Wallis, Donna Schrock and husband Kelly of Slidell, Louisiana and Lisa Nicholson and husband, James of Katy, four great grandchildren, Shanna and Nikki Schrock, Brooke and Billy Nicholson, one sister, LaVerne Overgoner and husband, C.J. of Richmond and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was receded in death by her  parents,  husband, twin brother August Wilke and his wife Dora and her sister Irene Rosenbaum and her husband Ernest.
Memorial gifts may be made in her name to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 506 Cedar St., Wallis, Texas  77485.
Funeral services held under the direction of Knesek and Sons Funeral Home in Wallis.
