Alwood Vernon Hartman, 87, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, in a Houston hospital.
A loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, he was a friend to many.
He is survived by his children Sandra Kay (Hartman) Schwenke and her husband, Earl, A.V.
Hartman, Jr. and Lauretta Zoe (Hartman) Hendricks; grandchildren Glenn Schwenke and his wife, Mary, Terrell Schwenke, Melanie (Hartman) Biesert and her
husband, Neil, Dana (Hartman) Mayson and husband, Randy, Tina (Hartman) Carr and her husband, Ty, Tara Wilson, Ashley Wilson and Dane Hendricks; 10 great
grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Natlin (Hartman) Spriggs, Grace (Hartman) Gregory and Ben Hartman and his wife, Pat; sister-in-law Thelma Hartman;
special friend Jo Leen Cook; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Delma, daughter-in-law, Nancy Hartman,
son-in-law, Craig Hendricks and brothers-in-law,
Will Gregory and Frank Spriggs.
Al was born Oct. 31, 1921 in Sunnyside, Waller County, the son of Ben W. and Elsa A. (Nieman)
Hartman.
He grew up and attended school in Pattison. Al served his country in the U.S. Army during
World War II from May 14, 1942 - Oct. 22, 1945. He had also made his home in Bellville and Houston where he had worked as a security guard, salesman and
welder, and owned and operated a service station.
A Lutheran by faith, Al loved hanging out and playing dominoes with his friends. He
also enjoyed dancing, fishing and Sons of Herman.
Funeral Service: 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor
Robert Sorensen, Officiating.
Interment in Pattison Methodist Cemetery in Pattison.
Pallbearers were Neil Beisert, Randy Mayson, Scott Hartman
