Jerry Wayne Kiemsteadt, 51, of Cypress, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in Houston.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 24, 2008 at noon from Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dodie Osteen, officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were Tom Benwell, Randy Vierick, Jeff Wolpers, Buddy Hubbard, Gordon MacKenzie, Jerry Wayne Krumrey, Tad LeBlanc, and Roy Golan.
Jerry Wayne Kiemsteadt was born on Nov. 25, 1956, in Bellville to Melvin and Lucile Kiemsteadt. He grew up in Kenney, attending elementary school at the Kenney-New Wehdem School.
In sixth grade, he began attending Bellville schools, where he made many life-long friends.
While at Bellville High School, Jerry excelled in football and baseball. These were his glory days. He earned a football scholarship to Ranger Junior College and went on to graduate from Sam Houston State University in 1978 with a BBA in Business Management.
Jerry began his career in the financial industry as a loan officer at First Savings and Loan in Brenham, Texas. He continued working in the financial industry for many years, and enjoyed his time as a valuable team member at several local financial institutions. For the past seven years, Jerry worked in the oil industry as a petroleum landman.
Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Cindy Burleson, on Nov. 9, 1974. The birth of their son, Clint, brought much joy and happiness.
Jerry was a devoted and caring father and taught Clint what was important in life, from throwing a spiral to being the kind of person you would want to call your friend.
Clint’s wife, Amy, and his children, Kennedy, Graham, and Luke were also a special part of Jerry’s life. He loved visiting and playing with his grandchildren and will be especially missed by them.
Jerry was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. As a teenager, he hauled hay in the summers and helped his dad take care of their livestock. He loved to dance, listen to rock and roll music, and have fun whenever possible – usually at Cindy’s expense!
Jerry always enjoyed sports, especially baseball and football. One of the highlights of his life was coaching Little League baseball and later watching Clint play football for Bellville High School in the same number 14 jersey that he once wore.
In the final years of his life, Jerry enjoyed riding his Harley, and spending time on Lake Travis, where he could relax and find peace. It was there that he could spend time with his grandchildren and just have fun. Jerry was happiest when he was surrounded by his family and good friends.
Jerry is survived by his wife and best friend of 33 years, Cindy Kiemsteadt; his son and daughter-in-law, Clint and Amy Kiemsteadt; grandchildren, Kennedy Elizabeth, Graham Walker, and Luke Hudson Kiemsteadt. Also, his parents, Melvin and Lucile Kiemsteadt; his brother and sister-in-law, David and Linda Kiemsteadt; his sister-in-law, Mary Dillon and Clarence Lacy; brother-in-law, Ed Burleson and wife Glenda; brother-in-law, David Burleson and wife Becky, brother-in-law, Cuba Joe and wife Linda; and many nieces and nephews who were very special to Jerry.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cuba L. and Mary Burleson.
