Newton Dewitt Lambert was born February 18, 1928, in Livingston , Texas, the son of Roland Clark and Audie White Lambert. He grew up in Livingston and Onalaska, Texas, attending Livingston High School.

Dewitt was united in marriage with Evelyn Thomas and October 4, 1947, in Houston.

They were members of the Church of Christ in Bellville for many years.

Dewitt served his community as a deputy sheriff with the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, Captain and Acting police chief with the Lockhart Police Department, and held the position as Precinct #1 Constable of Caldwell County, Texas. He also owned and operated a feed store in Bellville for several years.

He was very active with Little League baseball and served as a coach for many years. He also held the position of President of the Cottage Grove Little League of Houston. Dewitt had a love of dominoes and was most renowned as a story teller.

Dewitt passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at the age of 80 in Bellville; daughters: Pat Ruffino and her husband Vince, Sr., Judy Majewski and her husband, Tony, and Gay Lambert all of Bellville. Sons, Tom Lambert and his wife, Cindy, of Spring and George Lambert of Spring; daughter-in-law: Mary Lambert of Charlotte, N.C.; sister-in-law: Addie Lambert of Hawkins , Texas, and Hazel Lambert of Pasadena; brother-in-law: Raymond Thomas and his wife, Mary, of Houston. He is also survived by his 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, James Newton Lambert; grandson, James Brian Lambert; sisters, Nettie Pearl Craft and Ola Mae McKenzie, brothers, Ray Lambert and Roland Lambert, Jr.

Visitation was at 6 to 8 p.m. , Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville.

The funeral service was at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31, 2008 at the Church of Christ in Bellville with Charles Wilson officiating. Interment was at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery in Bellville. Pallbearers were Larry Majewski, Greg Brogger, Vince Ruffino, Jr., Jarod Lambert, Johnny Brzozowski, and Charles Brzozowski.
