EUGENE LOEHRER

Eugene Loehrer of New Ulm was born Oct. 13, 1918  in St. Gallen,
Switzerland. He died Feb. 14, 2008 at Briarwood Manor Nursing home in
Bellville.
He was 89.
A butter maker and rancher, Loehrer was the owner and operator of New Ulm
Creamery. He also worked as a cheese maker before moving to Texas.
He is survived by wife Emma Loehrer of New Ulm.
Services were conduced Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at Sts. Peter and Paul
Catholic Church in Frelsburg under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home,
Columbus. Services included a Rosary, Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 at Henneke
Funeral Home.
Burial at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Frelsburg follwed
services on Saturday. The Rev. Fr. Wayne Flagg officiated.
Loehrer lived 51 years in New Ulm. He was an Honorary Life Member of the
Knights of Columbus in Frelsburg and was a long-time member of the New Ulm
Volunteer Fire Dpt.
Loehrer was also instrumental in organizing the New Ulm Water Supply.
Mr. Loehrer served in the Swiss Army.
He left Switzerland and traveled to Peru, Wisconsin and Michigan and worked
as a cheese  maker during that time.
In the late 1950s Mr. Loehrer left Michigan to move to New Ulm to become a
Butter Maker. He owned and operated the New Ulm Creamery until 1978.
At that time he retired from the creamery business to take care of his
cattle.
Survived by wife, Emma, Mr. Loehrer is also survived by: daughter -- Grace
Gillison and husband, Tim, of Bellville; sons -- Roy Loehrer of New Ulm;
Andrew Loehrer and wife Rebecca, of Pulaski, VA; sister -- Freida Loehrer of
Switzerland; sisters-in-law -- Rose Marie Loehrer of Switzerland and Mina
Loehrer of Switzerland; seven grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and
nephews in Switzerland.
He was preceeded in death by his parents -- Emil Loehrer and Freida Riemlie
Loehrer; and brothers -- Joseph, Emil, Werner, Herman and Rudolf Loehrer.
Pallbearers were: Ryan Gillson, John Cates, Justin Hardy, Kyle Loehrer,
Kerry Neuendorff and Josh Loehrer.
