ELINOR MILDRED HANDRICK PLAGENS

Funeral Services for Elinor Plagens, 90, of Bellville were held on Monday, November 24, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. from St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville with Rev. Jennie Jones, Rev. David Henskeand Rev. Irell Fisher co-officiating.   

Interment followed in the Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville.  Serving as pallbearers were Robert F. Doby, Robert Plagens, Lloyd Matejowsky, Neal Prestridge, Dan Hennigan, Glenn Remmert, Clifton Krupala and Timothy Handrick. 

Honorary pallbearers were Paul Prestridge, Thomas Handrick and Bill Sims.

Elinor Mildred Handrick Plagens passed from this life in the arms of our Lord on November 19, 2008.  She was born  November 18, 1918 in Winchester, Texas to Paul H. and Magdalena Noack Handrick, the youngest of eight children.  

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester.  She married Lee Marcus Plagens on  August 10, 1946.

Elinor is preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters, Mandy, Ida, Gertie and Raye, 2 brothers, Albert and Val, loving husband Lee of 51 years and infant son Lee Marcus Plagens, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Carole “Puddin” Black, Carolyn Zahn, Peggy Fetzer, Shirley Esposito, Paulette Helberg, sons-in-law, Glenn Black, Mark Fetzer, Lawrence Helberg and Joe Harber, grandchildren, James, Danny, Todd, Cayce, Zachary, Ashley, Lindsay, Brittany and Alex, 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, sister, Tillie Prestridge and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elinor loved bowling, bingo, dominoes, card games, visiting with family and friends and of course – the Houston Astros!

Elinor worked as a bookkeeper with her husband at Plagens Texaco and GulfService Station and Plagens Tire Store.  

When they sold their tire store, Elinor continued as bookkeeper for Krupala Tire Store until she retired in 1988.

Elinor was blessed with a strong Christian faith passed to her by her parents.  She and Lee passed their faith to their  daughters.  Elinor was very proud that their children continued to pass the faith on to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Faith and family meant everything to Elinor.  She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother with a great sense of humor and heart full of love and life. 

Elinor was loved by everyone who met her.

We will miss you dearly, Mother, Granny, Great Granny and Great Great Granny.
