Jim Willis Ruch was born Jan. 31, 1927, in Abilene, Texas, the son of George Paxton and Julia Clarida Rush.
He grew up and attended school in Abilene and Sweetwater, graduating from Sweetwater High School.
He served his country in the United States Marines during World War II from 1944 until 1946. After his honorable discharge, he attended Texas Tech graduating in 1949. 
On Oct. 27, 1951, Jim married Jeanette Gibson in Longview, Texas. They made their home in the Houston area for a number of years before moving to Sealy in 1978. Jeanette preceded Jim in death on May 7, 2007.
A longtime member and Deacon of the First Christian Church of Katy, Jim was also a member of the Alumni Association at Texas Tech.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He also liked playing cards, traveling and working crossword puzzles.
He passed away suddenly Saturday, May 3, 2008, in Katy at the age of 81.
He is survived by his daughter: Kathleen Rush Hernandez and her husband, Juan, of Denton, Texas; grandchildren Lee Ann Kelly of Lewisville, John C. Hernandez of Denton and Mark A. Hernandez of Sealy; and many other friends and relatives.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. 
Funeral Service was 9 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2008 at First Christian Church of Katy with the Rev. J. David Hargrave, officiating.
Graveside service was 4 p.m. at College Mound Cemetery in  Terrell, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers were Juan Hernandez, John Hernandez, Mark Hernandez, Russ Bookout , David Bryant                       Keith Jones, Bobby Morrow                                                                 Mike Bannert.
In lieu of usual remembrances, friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the: First Christian Church, 22101 Morton Ranch Road, Katy, Texas 77449.
