Ruggles
Marion Leroy Ruggles was born Aug. 17, 1909 in Bellville, the son of Albert and Lena Bartay Ruggles.
He grew up and attended school in Bellville, graduating from Bellville High School in 1927.
He was the last survivor of his class.
Marion was united in marriage with Odessa Winn on July 18, 1948 in Bellville where they made their home and were members of the First Baptist Church.
Odessa preceded Marion in death on Aug. 31, 2000 after 52 years of marriage.
Marion loved being with his family and enjoyed tending to his garden. He was employed as a postal clerk at the U.S. Post Office in Bellville for 40 years, retiring in 1990 at the age of 80.
Marion passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 in Bellville at the age of 98 years, 6 months.
He is survived by his son: Bruce Ruggles of Dallas; brothers Charles Ruggles and his wife Mozelle of Bellville and Owen Ruggles of Arlington, Va.; numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Arleigh, Morris and Albert Jr. and sisters Audrey Walker and Shirley Sommer.
Funeral service was 2 p.m. Saturday, march 1, 2008 at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Olsen officiating and the Rev. Renee Gaston Hoke assisting.
Pallbearers were Mike Murphey, Bill Coats, Roy Golan, B.J. McDaniel, Jimmie Poffenberger and Jerry Sisson.
Interment followed in Oak Knoll Cemetery.
