Funeral Mass for Darrel "Sandy" Sandman, 79, of Bellville, were held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at 10 a.m. from Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Tim Bucek, officiating. Interment with full Military Honors took place on Monday, Jan. 28, 2008 at 1 p.m. in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio. Sandy was born. in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., on Oct. 9,1928, the son of Gilbert and Evelyn (Hamm) Sandman. Sandy passed away on Jan. 20, 2008 in Bryan. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, he had a great sense of humor and a love for life and for his family. Sandy served as a Deacon in the Catholic Church and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force after 27 years of service. Sandy earned a Masters Degree from the University of Hawaii, was past president of the Hawaii Baseball Assoc., a member of the NCAA Basketball Officials, and served on the school board for the Bishop Ryan High School in Minor, N.D. Sandy was preceded in death by his parents. Sandy is survived by his wife, Alice Sandman of Bellville, daughter, Sandra Behm and husband Bruce, of Dickinson, N.D., sons, Mark Sandman and wife, Cindy of Dickinson, N.D., and Bradford Sandman and wife, Beth of Bellville, sisters, Elaine Farrell and husband, John, and Marge Schumacher and husband, Hans of Green Bay, Wis., grandchildren, Justin Behm, Cody Behm, Lucas Sandman and wife, Jenna, Jenna Sandman, Keegan Sandman, Colton Sandman, great grandson Owen Behm.
