DONALD WILBURNE WIGLEY

Bellville Times

Wigley

Donald Wilburne Wigley, was born in Cleburne, Texas on Sept. 5, 1926, to Jess W. and Fannie Mae (Young) Wigley. He grew up and attended school in Johnson County, graduating from Cleburne High School.

In 1944, Don went to serve his country in the United States Navy. After he was Honorably Discharged in 1946, he attended Texas Christian University, graduating in 1951 with a bachelors degree.

Don married Elizabeth Davis on Oct. 6, 1951, in Mineral Wells, Texas.

Don began his career with Dun and Bradstreet in Fort Worth and Midland. He came to Houston in 1963 and soon found his passion in banking. He was associated with a local bank before organizing and operating Merchants Park Bank, Fondren Southwest Bank, Mason Road Bank and QuestStar Bank. His creativity and marketing skills contributed to several changes in the banking industry.

Upon his retirement, Don and his wife, Elizabeth, moved to Bellville to raise cattle and hay.

Don was devoted to his family, and his friends were an important part of his life. He lived his life with honor and integrity and challenged all of us to do our best. He made us laugh and enjoy life: he built a house and put a car in the living room; in another house he installed a fire pole for the grandchildren to slide down; he bought a six-foot mannequin he named "Childress" that he dressed to suit his whim. We will miss him terribly. Life will not be as much fun without Don.

He is survived by Elizabeth, his wife of 57 years. Daughters: Lisa Cameron and her husband, Martin, of Damon; Susie Macha and her husband, Mike, of Bellville. Sons: Ken Wigley and his wife, Teresa, of Bryan; Jeff Wigley and his wife, Cathy, of Hinsdale, Illinois. Grandchildren: Elizabeth Moore, Robert Cameron, Megan Jones, Melissa Masters, Kennon Masters, John Macha, Jason Macha, Luke Wigley, Mark Wigley, Jack Wigley, Reed Wigley and Rachel Wigley; Great granddaughter Claire Elizabeth Jones. Close family friend Tim O'Brien.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bellville United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 188, Bellville, Texas 77418.

Schmidt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
