William Haskell LaRose

December 2, 1924 April 30, 2012

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Bellville United Methodist Church. Fulfilling his wish, his body was willed to the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Haskell was born in Houston to parents Sidney and Roxanna (Haskell) LaRose.  He joined the Navy at age 17 and served for four years during WW II.  An avid golfer, football and baseball fan and world traveler, he had a great interest in American history and politics (his way or no way).

After retiring from General Electric at age 57 his plan to visit every state capitol and play golf in each state was nearly fulfilled.  No golf was played in Alaska. He spent many hours volunteering with Meals on Wheels, the American Cancer Society and Bellville Hospital Auxiliary.

In early 1992 Haskell and Marilyn moved to Bellville to enjoy the next 20 years together.

Haskell was preceded in death by his parents, half-siblings and their spouses, Anita and Al Lomax and Sidney and Gloria LaRose, and Marilyns daughter, Laurie Russell.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Howell LaRose, her daughters and their spouses:  Marilyn and Bob Hitchcock, Nancy and Jim Weppler, Marcia and Tommy Vickers, Son (in love) Bill and Judy Russell, Marilyns grandchildren and their families: Steven Russell, his daughters Caitlin and Jayden; Brandon and Lane Russell, children Christopher and Kaylee; Esther Vickers, Travis Russell, Amanda Weppler and Evan Weppler.  Also Sids children, Michael, Alecia and Kim and Anitas daughter Pat, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Suzie.

If you wish he may be remembered with a memorial to any of the following:

In Bellville:  Boys and Girls Club, Meals on Wheels, Bellville Christian Food Pantry, American Cancer Society, Animal Friends Shelter, Bellville General Hospital Auxiliary, Salvation Army (Bellville/through First Natl Bank), Bellville United Methodist Church Building Fund; Cal Farleys Boys Ranch (Amarillo) or charity of your choice.
