Bellville Times Dorothy Mae Delion Olson began her life in her family�s home atop a country hill in Industry on March 7, 1934. Born to Leon and Anita Warmke Delion, Dorothy grew up in a country life with three sisters Gloria, Shirley, and Virginia, and attended school in Industry. Her father Leon farmed and played in local polka bands so she spent her childhood outdoors and playing on dance floors. In her early teens the family moved to Bellville and she continued high school. In Bellville she met Joseph Franklin Olson and was known around town for hot-rodding up and down the streets with Joe in his �32 Roadster. After high school, she moved to Houston, worked as a waitress, and with Joe, at the University of Houston, still hot-rodded on the streets of downtown Houston. Dorothy married Joe on Aug. 4, 1951, at St. Bartholomew�s Episcopal Church in Hempstead. The couple began their life together in Bellville, and started their family with the birth of their daughter, Nancy Jo on Aug. 3, 1953. The family grew with Robert Gordon born Sept. 7, 1957, and Jerry Allen on June 22, 1959. In the mid 1950�s, the family moved to Katy but returned to Bellville in 1963. Dorothy�s early life revolved around her family and her sisters� families with large birthday and holiday gatherings, fishing at local ponds, and riding go-carts. Her home was always filled with kids, and she enjoyed chaperoning teenage dances, hosting slumber parties, and serving as Scout Den mother. She loved her blue 1965 Mustang fastback and still continued to hot-rod around town with her kids. She enjoyed country and polka music and played cards and dominoes. Road trips were an annual vacation, taking the family to Six Flags and Disneyland, Colorado, Arkansas, visiting family in California and Nebraska, and camping at Padre Island and state parks. Later in life, Dorothy and Joe continued to travel to New York, Hawaii, Canada, Washington DC, and riding the train from New Orleans to Washington State to California and excursions thru England and Scotland. Dorothy�s life passion was being outdoors, planting and growing flowers and vegetables. Her yard was always in full bloom and she enjoyed the garden club and jobs at Ueckert Flower Shop and Edgebrook Nursery. Her outdoor horizons expanded to Koi fish so she proceeded to dig her own fishponds. With five large ponds, too many Koi and goldfish to count, two greenhouses and a yard full of plants, her life was always productive and bountiful. Her other life�s activities were always helping others, caring for dogs and cats, sewing for family and Joe Franks in Bellville in the 1960�s, becoming a legal guardian, helping at the local nursing home with bingo, judging plants at area fairs, and going gambling to Louisiana with her long-time friend, Milton. She deeply loved her grandchildren and participated in their lives as much as she could, always with them at birthdays, holidays and school events. Dorothy was a kind, caring person, who worked hard, led a full, productive life, and was loved and appreciated by all of her family and friends. Dorothy passed away from this earth on Monday, May 28, 2012, at St. Joseph�s Hospital in Bryan. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Jo Lawrence and husband Graeme of Bellville, sons; Robert Olson, and wife Janis of Houston, and Jerry Olson of Bellville, granddaughters Natalie Olson of Albuquerque, Hanna Olson and Rachel Olson of Houston, and grandsons Mitchell Olson of Albuquerque and Tristan Lawrence of Bellville. Also surviving her is her sister Virginia Wood of Bellville and many fond aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joe, sisters Gloria Mewis and Shirley Buchanan, and her parents. She will be greatly missed. Visitation was on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, Bellville. Funeral service was at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at St. Mary�s Episcopal Church, in Bellville, with Pastoral Leader E. Wendy Huber, officiating.
