EDGAR "OPPY" OPPERMANN

Edgar �Oppy� Oppermann was born on May 4, 1919 in Frelsburg in Colorado County.

He graduated from public schools in Frelsburg. After graduation, he worked on his family farm and was later employed by L.O. Brayton and Co.

In 1942, he entered the United States Army and served until 1945, earning the rank of Sergeant. During his time in the Army he fought in five major battles in the European campaign. He received the following Medals and Honors American Theater Campaign Medal, E.A.M.E.-Campaign with five bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal and 1 Service Stripe and three overseas service bars, Silver Star Medal.

Returning home he was employed in 1948 by San Bernard Electric Cooperative. Oppy was hired as an assistant lineman and later promoted to the job of Line Forman. He was the first serviceman to work in Waller, Austin and Colorado counties. After 44 years with the Cooperative he retired to his favorite pastimes of spending time with family, woodworking and fishing.

Edgar �Oppy� Opperman passed from this life on August 13, he is preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Willie Oppermann, and his first wife Anna B. Oppermann.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary, children Marilyn Eckermann, Robert English, Melinda Day, Tommy English, Craig Duren, Dawn Ward, Fawn Sisson and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Bellville, with Rev. Jeff English and Rev. Wade Cashion co-officiating. Interment was in Coshatte Cemetery. Members of family served as pallbearers.
