Melvin Pomikal, a loving father, Pa Pa, and friend, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.

Melvin was born Nov. 3, 1922 in Bellville, the only child of Minnie and Willie Pomikal. He spent his childhood in Kenney and graduated from Bellville High School.

Shortly thereafter, he joined the Army Air Corps during World War II and served his country in various locations.

He moved to Sugar Land upon his discharge and married Florine Luhn in 1946. Blessed with a wonderful personality and a love for people, he was elected to the first City Council of Sugar Land and served his community for many years. He also began a 46 year career with Imperial Sugar.

Over the years he held numerous positions including Union President and ending his career as Superintendent of Packaging and Shipping. He was also a long time member of the Sugar Land American Legion and Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife Florine , his son-in law Joe Ruzicka and parents.

He is survived by his daughter Melba Ruzicka of Sugar Land; his son Wayne Pomikal and wife, Kay of Rosenberg; grandchildren Stacy Kristynik and her husband Kris of Southlake; Jamie Dawson and her husband Reid of Richmond and four great grandchildren, Ava and Anna Claire Kristynik, Drew and Lily Dawson; and dearest special friend Anita Kramer.

Pallbearers will include Randy Stock, Billy Henske, Jimmy Meissner, Allen Winke, Kris Kristynik and Reid Dawson.

Honorary Pallbearers are John Drabek and Mac McLinden.

A visitation with the family will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel at 842 E. Main, in Bellville. The funeral service and burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg, 2739 Phillipsburg Church Road, Brenham, TX 77833.
