Funeral Services for Dorothy Eckelberg Schaer, 91, a long time resident of Sealy, 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Sealy with Rev. Lani Rousseau officiating, Chris Nava musician. Interment in Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville at 2 p.m.

Pallbearers: Travis Able, Wesley Schuknecht, James Schroeder, Miguel Villafranka, Joey Schneider, Waddell Brandes, Terry Koy, Douglas Ivey. 

Honorary Pallbearers:  Jerry Glover, Junction City, Ark., Robert (Bob) Witcomb, Sealy, John Ayres, Sealy, Ron Kellogg, Bellville. 

Dorothy Mae Eckelberg Schaer was born on May 3, 1920 to parents, Charles Frank Eckelberg and Sadie Bartay Eckelberg in Austin County. 

She graduated in 1937 from Bellville High School attended Blinn College for two years; and received a Bachelor of Music Degree from Baylor University.

William K. Schaer and Dorothy were married in St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1950 where Dorothy had served the church as pianist and organist for several years.

In Sealy where the couple lived, Dorothy was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she served as pianist and organist for over fifty years.  She was active in the music program, and served on various committees for the church. She was president of the First United Methodist Women of Sealy for four years.

Dorothy taught on the elementary school level in the Henkhaus community, Kenney, Cochran, Frydek, Wallis and Sealy public schools during her thirty-one year teaching career in Austin County.

She was active in the Austin County Teacher�s association serving as president for the school year of 1973-1974.

Robert William Schaer, son; Anna Schaer Cano, daughter; Daniel Anthony Cano, son-in-law; William Daniel Cano, grandson; survived Dorothy. Her husband, parents and brother, Dennis Eckelberg preceded her in death.
