Bruce Lane Warburton, 80, of Bellville, passed away, March 27, 2012.

He was born to Lawrence and Estelane Smith Warburton, in Harlingen, on Feb. 25, 1932. Bruce was the third child and second son.  His older brother, Lawrence, a lawyer in Alice, preceded Bruce in death.

Bruce attended school in Freer, Texas, going on to graduate from Southwest Texas State, in 1953, in San Marcos, with a Bachelors degree in science and a Masters degree in education, in 1963.

Following graduation, in 1953, Bruce enlisted in the United States Army.  He trained in photolithography, and was stationed in Korea, at the 98 parallel.

Upon returning to the states, he was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base, in California, until his discharged. Bruce also was an Eagle Scout and earned Order of the Arrow.

Bruce taught public school for 17 years in Corpus Christi and Garland.  He was also with United Electronics Institute in Louisville, Kent.  He opened their first school in Dallas. 

Bruce had the heart of an artist. He loved creating, repairing and growing things.  Bruce renovated the Schier ancestral home, built in 1880; he also built storage sheds, grafted plants, grew a tree farm, and did pottery and collected artwork, especially G. Harvey Russell Windberg, Japanese screens, woodblocks and ceramics.

Bruce and Dorris were married 58 years.  They met at Methodist Youth Fellowship meeting and summer camp. Both attended Southwest Texas State College together and married in January, 1954, before he left for Korea.  It was a lifetime of being best friends and soul mates.

Bruce is survived by his loving and caring wife of 58 years Dorris Warburton, of Bellville; sons James Land Warburton, of Bellville and Robert Bruce Warburton and his wife, Tracie, of Gladewater; grandchildren Layne Robert Warburton and Dorrie Warburton, both of Gladwater. He is also survived by his sister Shirley Newhouse, of Brookshire, and brother Stanley Warburton, of Houston. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lawrence.

Memorial service, 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012, Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, Bellville with Pastor Amy Haralson, officiating.
