Funeral services for Herman A. Grawunder, 69, of Raccoon Bend, Texas were held on Friday, Dec. 26, 1997 at 2 p.m. from St. John Lutheran church in Bellville with the Rev. Willie Rotter officiating.

Interment was at the Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery in Bellville.

Serving as pallbearers were Nathan Grawunder, John Zuber, Billy Jackson, Monroe Mewis, Donald Krumrey and James Lamp. Jack Dunn was honorary pallbearer.

Herman Arthur Grawunder was born on Oct. 1, 1928 in Raccoon Bend, Texas to parents Adolph Albert and Florence Mewis Grawunder. He was raised in Raccoon Bend and attended Bradbury Elementary School, and graduated from Bellville High School in 1945. On Aug. 22, 1947 he married Miss Annabel Clemons at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Mr. Grawunder graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1949 with a Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture.

Herman was qualified to teach agriculture but decided to return to Raccoon Bend to engage in farming and ranching. He was employed by the Texas Animal Health Commission from 1971 until 1991.

Herman Grawunder was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to ranching, Herman enjoyed cooking and dancing to Big Band music and hunting. He and his friend, Jack Dunn made many trips to East Texas in pursuit of deer and turkey.

Herman was baptized and confirmed in St. John’s Lutheran Church where he was an active member of the Retreat Center Committee. v Mr. Grawunder was a member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the former Austin County School Board.

Herman Grawunder died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997 in Raccoon Bend, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Annabel Grawunder of Raccoon Bend; daughter, Teresa Grawunder of Houston; son, Thomas Albert Grawunder and wife Vinnie of Raccoon Bend, grandsons, Nathan, Seth and Colby Grawunder; sister, Rose Marie Trenckmann and husband Ernst of Sealy; nephew, John Zuber of Sealy, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Adolph Grawunder, his mother, Florence Mewis Grawunder Brosig, and his step-father, Ralph Brosig.

Funeral services were held under the direction of Knesek Bros./Etlinger Funeral Chapel in Bellville. From Bellville Times
